The Btrfs file type supports partition size up to 16 EIB (Exibyte). The Ext4 file type supports partition size up to 1 EiB (Exibyte). You can create up to 264 files in a Btrfs system. Ext4 lets you create a max of 232 files. It is an updated and also reliable file system. It is one but a reliable file system. BTRFS “subvolumes†are equivalent in design to ZFS “filesystems†, but BTRFS doesn’t support different RAID parameters for subvolumes at this time. ZFS supports RAID-Z and RAID-Z2, which are equivalent to BTRFS RAID-5, RAID-6—except that RAID-5 and RAID-6 are new on BTRFS, and many people aren’t ready to trust important data to them.
I am aware that this is a btrfs-community and as such the answers here might be biased. But. I have installed ZFS on a 4 disc raid and was thinking to migrate to that, but now I have second thoughts. Especially I am missing the cp --reflink feature in ZFS.I understand that btrfs have a major problem with Raid, - and that is a problem.. There are many reasons. BTRFS offers, apart from the possibility of an inline deduplication, almost all features of ZFS. These include integrated RAID functionality, an included volume manager and support for file systems up to 16EiB. Features include transparent compression, checksums and snapshots. Deduplication currently only works via commands after the fact.

33. Mar 5th 2021. #1. I want so set up a private media server for myself and wanted to use ZFS or BTRFS as file system. ZFS should be reliable meanwhile, but BTRFS is quite new and I don't know what to think about it. What i saw, it has a few nice features, but though its a private server, I don't want to loose some data because of the file system.

We need a file-system that has snapshot feature on linux for our production use. We are considering between Linux ZFS and Btrfs. Use whatever your distro vendor supports: on Redhat and spinoffs, use XFS+LVM (the latter gives you snapshotting capabilities today;: XFS itself will receive them in the medium term), on Suse use BTRFS.
So, the design goal of the Ext4 filesystem was different than the Btrfs filesystem. Still, they are filesystems. They do have some similarities that we can compare. i. Maximum Partition Size: The Ext4 filesystem supports partition sizes up to 1 EiB. The Btrfs filesystem supports partition sizes up to 16 EiB. ii.
Myth: ZFS and Btrfs requires ECC memory! ZFS or Btrfs without ECC memory is no worse than any other file system without ECC memory. Using ECC memory is recommended in situations where the strongest data integrity guarantees are required. Random bit flips caused by cosmic rays or by faulty memory can go undetected without ECC memory.
LVM snapshots are COW snapshots, ZFS / BTRFS both have a COW-mode for snapshots, reiserfs doesn't have snapshots natively, Novell's NSS file-system is also COW, as are Shadow Copy volumes for Windows NTFS volumes.
